Guitar Lessons And Performance In Norwich, Norfolk

Online Guitar Lessons Are The Future!

Before the covid pandemic, I had given occasional online guitar lessons to students who could not travel to my studio, although suddenly having to teach all of my students online was an interesting turn of events. I spent a great deal of time figuring out how to best use all the hardware and software tools at my disposal to give the best online guitar lesson experience I could. The result? Online guitar lessons are working far better than I could have possibly imagined.

Better than face to face guitar lessons?

When asked if they would prefer to stick with online guitar lessons or return to face to face guitar lessons, most of my students have requested to stay online. There are so many advantages to online guitar lessons including:

  • Detailed and professional looking guitar lesson notes are sent via email.
  • Graphical tools are used in the lesson to easily show the fingering for any musical idea.
  • I can be sure that students understand any notation or diagrams in the lesson.
  • I have an ever growing extensive library of teaching tools at my fingertips, which I can access immediately.
  • Audio examples can easily be recorded and sent to students.
  • Students are able to use their own gear in the comfort of their own home.
  • Getting stuck in traffic will never be a problem.

Being forced to teach guitar online has given me the opportunity to reassess my entire teaching process. When teaching in schools, I now use many of my new online teaching tools in the classroom as they provide great benefits to my students.

Online Guitar Lessons - Scale And Chord Diagrams

Chords for online guitar lessons
Clear fingerboard diagrams used in real time can show guitar fingering, intervals, note names and a great deal of extra information which greatly enhances the learning process.

Online Guitar Lessons - Notation

Standard music notation and guitar tablature professionally presented can be used in the lesson to aid learning.

What If There Is A Problem?

The only downside to online guitar lessons from my point of view is that occasional problems with technology are to be expected. WiFi problems or problems with devices being used by a student do happen and can disrupt a guitar lesson. If this does happen, I will rearrange the lesson to a different time. Time of day can even have an impact if many people in a household are using the internet at certain times. Internet problem are actually very rare and I have been extremely surprised with how smoothly online guitar lessons have been running.

Predicting The Future Of Online Guitar Lessons

I have been very fortunate in that the Summer before the covid pandemic struck, I decided to bury a cable in my garden to hardwire my studio to the internet, specifically for teaching guitar online. Little did I know what was on the horizon, but that was one of the best business decisions I have ever made!

Paul's enthusiasm in teaching motivates me to pick my guitar up and practice. He is a fantastic teacher with a vast... knowledge of guitar theory and has the practical application to accompany it. He is very patient and adjusts his lessons to the pace of the student but always manages to keep a lesson theme and gives very thorough and clear notes for the student to take away and practice with.I cannot recommend him highly enough!read more

Paul's theory knowledge and playing is unmatched in my experience of teachers, he is a real pleasure to learn from.... Every lesson is as engaging as the last and his emails post lesson are very useful for notes and for reference. I would highly recommend any level of musician starting with Paul. I do not live locally to Paul and the online sessions are convenient and just as good as any face to face experience.read more

Paul’s friendly teaching style and his use of technology (screen sharing while using software to produce tailored... notes, tablature and chord boxes) bring a whole new dimension to my learning. The notes are forwarded immediately after the lesson so that I can start embedding the learning straight away. The online lessons work extremely well and have the added bonus of zero travel time!read more

Paul's online lessons are well delivered, informative, and great value. Paul is an incredibly knowledgeable and skilled... musician, and is great at communicating new ideas clearly and concisely. His online lessons have a number of advantages over in-person lessons, such as the ability to instantly share digital teaching materials (chord diagrams and tabs, for example), and Paul really takes advantage of these assets. I would absolutely recommend his guitar tuition to others.read more

Paul teaches my three sons guitar. Two have online lessons and one has lessons in school. We swapped teachers for the... boys to learn with Paul and started online lessons in lockdown. As a result of Paul’s teaching my boys have really developed quickly and love playing. They play for hours and have started a band. Online lessons are really convenient and Paul sends all the notes and music by email so I can see what they are learning and so they always have notes from their lessons to practice from. I have no hesitation in recommending Paul.read more

Paul is highly qualified and his lessons are naturally of the highest quality - I have made more progress in the few... months I've been taking video lessons than I had done in years on my own and the online format means I'm able to fit in an hour of quality tuition every other week around my awkward work schedule. I really appreciate the resources, notes and fretboard diagrams too as it helps to focus valuable practice time. Thank you Paul!read more
